You Can Do This, You Just Have To Want To
If you have a dog that tears up the garbage five times a week, and you come in the house and are shocked that it has happened, that is on you. Knowing humans as we do we cannot not be surprised by how we see people behave. The body goes where the head leads, and with toxic egocentric leadership in various governments around the world it is not at all surprising that polarization filters itself through the community.
However this is not about others, this is about you. It is about me. It is about us. We are going to be somewhere, in the grocery store, driving, at work or at home and someone is going to act in a way that is clearly not appropriate. What do we do? We can’t believe the person has done what they have done, and yet it makes complete sense. The average person will do what the average person is doing. If you expect people to not do the average, than you expect the extraordinary.
Can you expect others to not do what is so commonly done? It is like being angry with someone sneezing during the cold and flu season. Do you hate someone who strikes out in the midst of fever? We have to step up. If we are less committed to being present and awake than the person we are faced with is committed anger we will feel the hatred we are faced with reflected in our own hearts.
So do not give up until it is time. When it is the right time you will not have to wonder, you will know. Until then commit to serving no matter what. Commit to kindness and being the best you can be. Have a short memory when it comes to your mistakes, and do not hold others to theirs. You are unusual. You would not be thinking about peace in the midst of madness if you weren’t. Walk the path of the Samurai. Commit to peace to the end of this life and beyond. In doing so you do not have to achieve it. Truly committing is enough, and once you do you have already achieved success.
