Unattached To Outcomes

It is very important to have a practice that prepares you for every season of life.  A practice focused on connecting with the highest ideals of our own experience, for romance.  Not the romance of being lost in someone else’s eyes, but the romance of living an artistic life, one in which you are developing into your own best self.

To me this is a process of recognizing what qualities your best self would possess. Would that self be kind? Confidant? Would you live a life connected to joy? To compassion?  Recognizing these traits and our deepest desire to be our best selves we can do practices that enhance and create those positive emotional states. We can create calm, confidence and a willingness to give.

Part of it is found in being unattached to outcomes. In outcomes we are trapped in the world of samsara. This is a word from Buddhism and Hinduism. To be trapped in the world of samsara is to be trapped in a hell state. Another definition is “movement that catches your eye. “ It is like seeing a mouse run across your floor. For a moment we are transfixed. This is what happens when we are afraid, and when fear becomes hatred.

We can create a practice that is not attached to outcomes. We do not have to be attached to the opinions of others, and lesson the power of even our own. We do not have to chase and be slaves to our own emotional states. In doing so we find that chasing happiness is not they way to experience it. The practice we work to create is not found sitting at the edge of our seats, anxious. It is in sitting back, calm and knowing we got this, come what may.

It is found in doing what we do for its own sake. Do the work. Keep it simple. Do immersive practice today. Go for a walk. Be grateful for how many kind people are in the world. Breathe, do affirmations. Study something positive today. Learn to let go of the future and the past, and give today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
