Becoming The Butterfly
There is a story of a man who found a cocoon. Excited about the butterfly that was to be, he brought it home, deciding that we would help the butterfly to come into the world. Immediately going to his workshop, turning a heat lamp on, he placed the cocoon under it and waited for it to warm up.
After a short time using a pair of tweezers he carefully began to peel away the outer layer of the cocoon. Relatively quickly he got to the point of revealing the butterfly. It lay there, wings rumpled. Activated by the heat and exposure to air it began to attempt to rise. It stood on unsteady feet. The man hoped that being in the warmth of the lap would accelerate its growth.
The next morning , coming back anxiously to see how his butterfly was doing, he was saddened to find the young butterfly there, lifeless.
The struggle to break out of the confinement of the cocoon is the process that the butterfly finds the strength to fly. The cocoon is the element of transformation.
