Discovering Courage; Death As An Advisor

The truth is that who you are is reasonable considering your background. It is true of all us.. Just as we each have the accent and the language of where we grew up we are also going to exhibit whatever the prevalent attitudes are in the place and the time of our rearing. The average person is going to do what the average person is doing, and to expect the average person to be exceptional is clearly not reasonable.

In the insanity that abounds during this time it is reasonable to expect that a number of people are stressed and you are going to run into some of them. As the great Stoic emperor Marcus Aurelius reminded himself, you are going to meet human beings exhibiting poor behavior. They are trapped in a conditional nightmare.and will attempt to get into conflict with you to give them a sense of relief.  As Jesus is quoted, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Forgive yourself as well. We go through so much of our lives feeling that we are at a deficit. Lacking in something crucial we are just attempting to get to zero. At the same time we are putting tremendous pressure on ourselves that we will reach some sort of finish line, feeling that something we are missing will supply what we need. But we do not need anything to make us happy because no thing will make us happy.

Do not wait until you are dead to give yourself a lifetime achievement award. Your life is complete exactly as it is right now. Using death as an advisor, realize that your success is a direction, not a destination.  You are the hero of this story. You do not have to try to be heroic. You do not need to be perfect. Just be. Discovering Courage
