The End Is The Beginning

We as human beings out of all living creatures on this miracle planet, are unique. We are as far as we know the only living creatures that deal with existential angst. Something about our relationship to being is simply an almost overwhelming challenge to bear. Even as things go well, and especially when we are in periods of uncertainty the worry of the unknown is powerful. Even when our dreams come true we find that often our success is our greatest disappointment. Woe be it to the person who achieves their dreams and discovers that they are nightmares.

Why is this? It is because we are the only creature on earth who live in the dynamic tension of opposites being true. We have the belief, and belief is not a description of what is so much as what we want to be. We have the belief that if we find what is true we will find what is best. However we have major problems in the discovery of truth. Our truth is not so much what is as what we want, and as a result live in a state of cognitive dissonance.

The other and even more challenging element of truth that short circuits our consciousness is the fact that opposites can be true. You can be right and wrong at the same time. You may be right about your views on anything, but if you have a stroke due to the stress that your view causes, were you really right? We tend to view those who oppose truth as evil, but if your view turns you into someone that treats people with cruelty, has your truth served you?

This play of opposites, like many elements in life is simple, and complex. Like wind or flow of the river if we can harness this truth to propel us forward. In loving ourselves and our lives during what is worst we find what is best. The end is the beginning and the peak is the beginning of the downfall. Our gift is the choice of how we frame the picture.
